It’s Friday I’m in Love with Trader Joe’s Sunflower Seed Butter

Or as I like to call it, “YUM BUTTER!!!”

This stuff is ridiculously tasty!!! Here’s the deal on why I love it so much!

With roughly the same nutritional content of peanut butter, you get some good fat, a nice protein punch, and 16% of the fiber you need for the day! Nice!!

Plus, it’s a “clean food!”

Ingredients: Sunflower seeds, evaporated cane juice, salt.

What would make me happier? If the list just read: Sunflower seeds. That’s how I prefer my peanut butter: Peanuts. Period. But this still follows my “kitchen rule” of “Five ingredients or less” and is a deeeeeeeeelicious addition to our refrigerator!

What’s more is that it’s a terrific solution if you are concerned about peanut allergies.  I was thrilled to find this product when Celia was a baby, so I had a peanut-free alternative to offer her without worrying about allergies. When she started a Parent’s Day Out program in a nut-free school, sunflower seed butter was a perfect food for her lunchbox. What’s more is that, since we don’t eat much meat around here, I love having another non-animal protein source on hand.

So wutdayadowithit???

Oh the possibilities!

We love to

  • Smear it on brown rice cakes and top with slices of apples or pears
  • Spread it on Ezekiel bread with some sliced strawberries for a SB&F (sunbutter and fruit) sandwich
  • Add it to smoothies
  • Make sunbutter pinwheels with bananas and whole grain or GF tortillas. Just put the sunbutter on your wrap, add banana, roll up, slice into fun pieces for your kiddos (and yourself).
  • For a treat, spread on a whole grain or gluten-free graham cracker  (for Annie) and top with a few dark chocolate chips

There are other brands of sunflower seed butter that I’ve tried and love, but this tops my personal charts. It does cost more than peanut butter, even at TJs. TJ’s Sunflower Seed Butter = $4.79 vs TJ Peanut Butter = $2.79. It doesn’t need to replace your pb or other nut butters, but it’s a great jar to have in the rotation.

Hope you try and enjoy! Let me hear from you about how you are using this product!!!
